Southern Maryland Driving Academy is located in Prince Frederick next to Weis supermarket. We offer classes at our physical location as well as several Calvert County High Schools. Our team consists of instructors and administrative staff dedicated to providing driver’s education and teaching the importance of safe and respectful driving techniques.
Who We Are |
Certified Driver’s Education Instructor Supervisor, Brian Carroll, is a retired Sergeant with the Metropolitan Police Department Washington DC. He brings over 20 years of driver’s education and instruction experience with him. His training began as an Emergency Vehicles Operations Instructor with MPDC. Upon retirement Brian became a Senior Emergency Vehicle Operations Course Instructor with the Maryland Police and Corrections Training Commission in Sykesville MD. After several years instructing for MPCTC and for surrounding police agencies, he decided to take a position closer to home and became a Driver’s Ed Instructor with the College of Southern Maryland. Brian has since been teaching Driver’s Ed in Calvert County for the past seven years and is certified through the MD Motor Vehicle Administration as a classroom and behind-the-wheel Instructor.
Owner and Certified Driver's Education Instructor, Thomas Komenda, is employed with Calvert County Public Schools as an electronic technician and services every Calvert County School K-12. His specialty spans from keeping our children and staff members safe by maintaining the access control systems on the schools doors. He also assists our fine arts educators in setting up and maintaining the electronic equipment necessary for children’s performances. He was born and raised in Maryland where his father, Frank Komenda, served as a Maryland Legislator and a Maryland State Senator for sixteen years and was voted by his colleagues as one of the Senate’s most effective members.
Owner and Certified Driver's Education Instructor, Jennifer Komenda, has a long list of community involvement. She is the previous owner/director/teacher of an early learning center consisting of 50+ children from the ages of 18 months through school aged children programs. She has volunteered as a cheerleading coach for southern Maryland’s youth leagues including the Beach Buccaneers and the Prince Frederick Eagles for several years. Most recently she was hired by Calvert County Public Schools as a substitute teacher. She also has a Bachelor of Science Degree with a Major in Pre-Law/Legal Studies from the University of Maryland University College and is currently finishing up her Master’s Degree in Human Resource Business Management at UMUC.
