And Refund Policy
Classroom
1. All students must be present on the first day of class per MVA policy. If a student misses the first day of class, the enrollment will be canceled, and a new class session will need to be chosen.
2. We expect our students to behave like young adults while in class. Behaviors that are disruptive to classmates or disrespectful to teachers can result in dismissal from SOMD Driving Academy with a prorated refund.
3. A student may not continue to participate in the current course if he or she consistently arrives late, departs early, leaves class, or misses more than four (4) classroom days.
4. SOMD Driving Academy assumes no responsibility for students who leave the premises during classroom or break time.
Behind-the-Wheel Lessons
1. Students are required to have a valid learner’s permit to attend any behind-the-wheel lessons and must have it on their person when they arrive for the drive.
2. There is a $75.00 charge for failing to appear for a scheduled in-car appointment without notifying our office at least 24 hours in advance. This includes arriving for an in-car lesson without a valid learner’s permit and students who are not dressed appropriately with closed toe and heel shoes as well as appropriate clothing that does  expose areas of the body that may cause an instructor to be uncomfortable in a vehicle with the  student.
3. Each parent/driver coach and student has the right to place a complaint with the Motor Vehicle Administration regarding problems associated with the driving school or the instructor (the number to call is 410.424.3751. With that right each parent/driver coach and student has the responsibility to attempt to promptly pay the driving school for the driver education class and to attempt to alert the owner or manager of the driving school about any problems or complaints prior contacting an outside agency
4. Students who do not achieve a passing score on the 3rd (final) in-car driving lesson will be required to schedule a one-hour re-evaluation at a later date. The fee for the one-hour re-evaluation is $75.00.
5. Once a student has successfully completed the entire driver education program, SOMD Driving Academy will electronically submit the student’s completion information to the Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA). Students are advised not to schedule the MVA road test appointment until after they have completed the entire Driver’s Education Program. Please allow 3 business days between the date of completion and the date of the road test.
Refund Policy and Information
Please note: If you are on a payment plan, no classroom completion forms will be distributed, and no behind-the-wheel drive times will be scheduled or completed until the invoice is paid in full. If there is an increase in the tuition for the full program, prices are subject to change, and any difference in the updated rate will be due prior to the course being completed.
Requests for refunds must be made in writing to [email protected]. We will respond promptly. Pro-rated refunds will be given based on the number of services provided to date. Each classroom day refund is pro-rated at $23/day for Virtual Class and $23/day for in-person class. In-car lesson refunds are pro-rated to be $20 per hour of the remaining balance for each in-car hour not used for virtual class and in-car hour not used for in-person class. A non-refundable amount of $50 for processing fee. If a student has not started the program, a full refund of the class will be given (less $50 processing fee).
